The following descriptive text about Reaching was written for the Ontario Society of Artists Members’ Exhibition of Selected Works by juror Anja Karisik from the Loch Gallery in Toronto:
“The third prize goes to the photographer who captured a lone tree standing stoically in a snowy white foreground. It is a tranquil, elegant, and sophisticated scene. The photographer catches the trees leaning subtly to the left while the ground on which it stands slopes gently to the right. The stark negative space is contrasted with the dark graphic lines of the tree. The soft fog-engulfed trees in the background act as a perfect mediator between the contrasting lights and darks of the frontal elements. The simplicity of the work is misleading and therein lies the skill of a fine balance achieved.”
