trace

In his series trace, Peter Dušek captures the ephemeral poetry of motion across water, presenting abstract aerial photographs of streaks and wakes left by boats as they traverse serene expanses in the lakes of Ontario, Canada’s Muskoka region. Viewed from overhead, these fluid trails become dynamic compositions of line and form, evoking the transient marks of human presence on the natural world—yet people themselves remain unseen, their absence within the streaks underscoring the occupants’ invisibility. Interwoven occasionally are subtle traces of Dušek’s own Water Music series—patterns of circles, organic loops and lines seen on the surface, blending intentional artistry with the organic choreography of the water, wind and sun. The vibrant hues of the boats emerge as vivid counterpoints, punctuating the predominant blues and greens of the water they glide upon, creating a harmonious yet contrasting visual symphony that explores themes of movement, the ephemeral, time passing, and the interplay between structure and fluidity.
